Federal and State Grants
These grants are awarded to meet financial eligibility as determined by an analysis of the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). They do not require repayment. You must file the FAFSA with the Federal Processor each year to be considered for grant programs.
Since grants are based on financial eligibility along with other factors, awards may vary from year to year depending upon the economic situation of the family.
Federal Pell Grant
- Amount: Awards range from $609 and $5,350
- Eligibility: The largest of the federal grant programs, this program provides grants to students meeting the eligibility criteria established by the U.S. Congress, and the Department of Education.
Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility
If you received a Pell Grant for the first time on or after July 1, 2008, you are limited to receiving a lifetime limit of up to 900% or 18 semesters of a Pell Grant. This includes community colleges, vocational schools and four year public and private universities. Year Round Pell The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 allow eligible students to receive up to 200% of their Pell Grant during one academic year. To be eligible the following are considered:
- You must receive 100% of your First Pell Grant award
- You must be enrolled in at least 6 credits for the semester that you will receive your Second Pell Grant award
- You must complete 24 units for the academic year (effective for the 2010-2011 school year)
Crossover Period Policy for 2009-2010 Academic Year
The Year Round Pell for the crossover period for the 2009-2010 at Yavapai College will not make comparison to their 2010-2011 FAFSA. The second Pell Grant award will be paid to students who meet the eligibility criteria based on their 2009-2010 FAFSA.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
- Amount: Awards range between $200 and $800 per academic year.
- Eligibility: Priority is given to students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant, and completed their application by the April 1st priority deadline date
Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grant (LEAP)
- Amount: Awards range from $200 and $1,000 per academic year
- Eligibility: Must be an Arizona resident, and completed their application by the April 1st priority deadline date
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
- Amount: Awards range from $750 first year and $1,300 for the second year
- Eligibility: Must be eligible for Pell Grant, be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, be enrolled at least half-time in a degree or certificate program and successfully complete a rigorous high school program.
